Letter from Dr Edward Trevor, Cork, County Cork, to William Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, complaining of lack of stores and provisions on convict ship Elizabeth and seeking further instructions as to his own duties. Reports that the Elizabeth cannot be provisioned for journey until arrival of the Tyne, a vessel being used to carry provisions for all convict ships, and that the Elizabeth has been incorrectly chartered for two hundred passengers rather than the expected number of one hundred and twenty. Conscious of loss of time and inconvenience caused, he protests ‘I am fully satisfied there must be mismanagement or neglect in some Department for taking up and equipping those vessels in England’; mentions that contrary winds has affected one of the convict ships that left Pigeon House Dock: ‘I think she must be either at Waterford or put back to Dublin’. |
