Letter from Captain Richard Sainthill, Cork, County Cork, to Alexander Mangin, Dublin Castle, making report on circumstances and personality of Catherine Flynn. As her husband is now in America, he relates, ‘She lives with her Mother, and I understand is in the habit of Writing to Various Persons in Order to raise money’. Encloses petition of Catherine Flynn to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting pecuniary assistance. She claims that her husband, Thomas Flynn, died while in America, and was consequently unable to provide for family; with reply from Talbot, indicating that the Lord Lieutenant ‘regrets that Mrs Flynn’s circumstances should be so reduced, but unfortunately has not the means of assisting her’.
