2 petitions of George Grierson and John Power, His Majesty’s Printers, Dublin, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting payment for printing work and stationary supplies produced for use by different offices of government; includes voucher slips showing outstanding monies owed. Also includes petition from Grierson, printer of Dublin Gazette, to Talbot requesting payment of account of £1,751.14 for printing work including proclamations carried out by various newspapers, mentioned in schedule [not extant]. Also encloses fully itemised accounts with abstract for supply of stationery and services supplied to various government offices at Dublin Castle, including the Council Office, the Military Secretary’s Office, the Adjutant General’s Office, the Civil Secretary’s Office, the Treasury Office, the Auditor General’s Office, the Office of Arms, Receiver General’s Office and the Record Office, for period from 5 April 1818 to 5 July 1818.

Includes letter from Chamberlen William Walker, secretary, Board of Education Office, 20 Kildare Street, Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, enclosing petition from Bishop of Cashel, Bishop of Down and Thomas Elrington, commissioners of education in Ireland, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting payment of funds to cover repairs and additions to Cuba House, a building in possession of Reverend Thomas Morris, master of the school house of Banagher, County Offaly; includes detailed schedule of proposed work indicating materials used, cost of tradesmen and other expenditure for project costing £298.18.9, endorsed by architect, Edward Balfe, 2 April 1818. Also includes petition of Walker to Talbot, requesting payment of salary for quarter ending 24 June 1818.

Includes letter from Dr [William] Harvey, 3 North Great George Street, Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, requesting payment of account costs of £249.6.6 for the fever department of the hospital, 11 April 1818; also includes petition from Governors and Guardians of Doctor Steevens’ Hospital to Treasury department requesting disbursement of £1,490 voted by Parliament, 5 June 1818; also includes letter from Dr Crampton, Gardiners Place, Dublin, to Robert Peel, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting settlement of account and enclosing detailed schedule with breakdown of disbursements and abstract of expenses incurred by fever department,19 February to 18 June 1818, signed by accountant, George Tynell, 20 June 1818.

Includes letter from George Tynell, accountant, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, transmitting account of expenditure on necessities and incidental items, 19 February to 18 March; also letter from Robert Perceval, member of Management Committee, Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital, enclosing additional accounts and remarking ‘The heavy expense is for straw, to replace what was burned, I conceive judiciously, by order of the Physicians, to secure against infection’, 16 April 1818; also copies of monthly accounts for April to June 1818, provided by Robert Perceval, Richard Darling, Robert Grattan, Thomas Parnell and Charles Strong, members of the hospital Management Committee.

File of papers relating to expenditure of Fever Hospital and House of Recovery, Cork Street, Dublin, largely of costs connected with construction and maintenance of institution. Includes petition from William English, J Leland Maquay, John Barrington, John Hutton Jr, JD La Touche, and Dr George Renny, Management Committee of the institution, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting payment of £2,500 ‘towards defraying the expenses of this Charity’, 16 April 1818; also includes letter from hospital Management Committee to Robert Peel, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, indicating that funds of £2,000 has been ‘expended in fitting up the New Building and furnishing the same, as well as in the maintenance of the Patients’, and making further request for a sum of £1,000 ‘to defray the extra Expenditure of the Institution’, 30 July 1818.

Letter from William Shaw Mason, secretary, Records Commission, Record Tower, Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, enclosing certificate and financial report of Record Commissioners: addressed to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, the report contains an abstract of the board’s accounts showing remuneration provided to personnel engaged in care of public records, covering the four quarters of 1817. Also includes letter from Mason to Gregory enclosing memorial from Mason and Steuart King, Master in Chancery, to Talbot requesting payment of sum of £1,488.2.1 ‘for the purpose of defraying the incidental Expenses incurred by the Board’.

Includes quarterly abstract of expenses for fitting up new record offices at King’s Inns, Henrietta Street, Dublin, abstract of expenses incurred for maintenance at the Record Tower and stores in lower yard of Dublin Castle, abstract of expenses incurred for works and repairs executed at the Four Courts Marshalsea, and abstract of expenses covering maintenance work on civil buildings, salaries of officers, annual payments due and estimate of incidental expenses to be provided for; indicates, for example, payments to Francis Johnston, architect, maintenance costs for Castle Chapel and buildings in Phoenix Park and cost of purchase of ‘English Newspapers for Commissioners of Barracks’.
