Letter from Reverend Forster Archer, Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Inspector General of Prisons Ireland, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning his enquires into the escape of 3 prisoners from county Antrim jail, Carrickfergus, on 31 October 1819. Notes that the prisoners had the assistance of a workman involved in work on the new prison, who provided the escapees with tools to break locks. Archer exonerates the prison guards from any involvement. Suggests that as work remains to be completed on the prison, the remaining convicts should be removed, 15 November 1819. Encloses minutes of evidence gathered by Archer into the escape, signed by Archer, 31 October 1819. |

Encloses petition of John Carpenter, insolvent debtor held in Four Courts Marshalsea, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting a supply of bread and milk and stating his poverty. Also letter from Carpenter to Grant, expressing hope that Grant received his petition, and will act on it, 29 October 1819. |

Petition of James Collins, 9 Camden Street, Dublin, clerk in military accounts office, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting to know Talbot's opinion on an address he has written to the British people. Refers to his other work, including an address to the disturbed counties of Ireland in 1815, which he published at his own expense, and also an address in 1816 written in reply to a 'Work published in Dublin in 1812 styled the penal Code' [probably a reference to Denys Scully's 'A statement of the penal laws which aggrieve the Catholics of Ireland: with commentaries', 2 volumes, Dublin 1812]. Annotation by Gregory states that Collins must be told that the Lord Lieutenant cannot comment on such matters. |

Relays details of a recent meeting of the managers of Cork fever hospital on the subject, 28 November 1819. Also, letter from Dr George Renny, Army Medical office, Dublin, chief of the Army Medical department, to Gregory, stating the position of legislation in relation to the retrospective remuneration of physicians attending the 'fever poor'. Warns that agreeing to this case would open the door to many more similar claims on government funds, 30 November 1819. |
