Report of Dr John Cheyne, physician to House of Industry, Dublin, on fever epidemic across Ireland

SCOPE & CONTENT:

Report of Dr John Cheyne, physician to hospitals under control of Dublin House of Industry, on the fever epidemic in Ireland. Notes vulnerability of poor to fever because of a lack of strength owing to lack of employment, and lack of food, fuel and clothing. Notes areas where disease was more or less prevalent and the role of fever hospitals. Also role of itinerant beggars spreading disease across country. Concludes that whilst more severe in south and west than north, the disease is relenting across Ireland, with exception of County Waterford.
