File of papers relating to loading of convict ships with prisoners and supplies. Includes letter from Robert White and William Wood, sheriffs of Dublin city, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, enclosing list of male convicts placed on the brig 'Atlas', and the captain's receipt [none present]. Emphasises their efforts to avoid the frequent occurrence of the arrival of the convicts in an 'Inebriated' state. States that they spent all previous day and night at Newgate prison to ensure that the convicts had no access to alcohol, 6 April 1819. Also 3 receipts, signed by captains, for fresh provisions supplied to the convict ships 'Daphne', 'Mary', and 'Bencoolen' and numbers of convicts boarded onto each, 14 April 1819 - 30 May 1819. |

File of papers relating to linen trade, and in particular, the seizure of yarn for re-reeling by the inspectors of yarn in Dublin, 6 July 1818. Includes petition of bleachers, manufacturers, buyers, factors and exporters of linen, in Drogheda, County Louth, and its vicinity, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle. Requests suspension of the legislation which is permitting seizure of yarn at time when bleaching should be carried out. Details the reasons for their opposition to the seizures, and its impact on linen manufacture, supply and prices. Signed by 96 individuals, 1818. Also 2 letters from James Corry, secretary to board of trustees of the linen and hempen manufacturers, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, presenting the response of the linen board to the petition, and arguing that 'personal interest' has prompted the petition, rather than concern for the linen trade in general. Opposes various arguments presented in Drogheda petition and notes that the flourishing of Ulster linen trade offers proof of benefits of adhering to law, 7 September; 19 November 1818. Encloses printed report 'of the inspector general on the conclusion of the re-reeling and regulating of the yarn lately seized in the yarn hall of Dublin', [1818]. |
