Encloses petition of Donovan to Grant requesting government relief to assist he and his family, following the loss of his eye sight, and therefore the loss of his trade. Also encloses copy of statement of David La Touche, colonel of the County Carlow militia regiment, certifying Donovan's service in the regiment during 1798 rebellion, when he first injured his eye. Also copy of statement of Reverend Dr Richard Graves, Dean of Ardagh and professor of Trinity College, Dublin, certifying Donovan's good character, 24 March 1818. |

Claims that despite forty years loyal service, including raising a yeomanry corps in Dublin in 1798 and 1803, the dismissal related to a misunderstanding of a private matter.
