Includes petition of Eager to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting appointment as an assessing officer, or to another government post. Refers to an earlier assurance received from Talbot's predecessor, Lord Whitworth, of employment as a supervisor of hearths. Petition certified by 3 individuals including Sir Valentine Blake, MP for Galway town, recommending Eager for employment, [January 1818]. Includes draft reply from Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, to Eager, stating that Earl Talbot was aware of his case, but 'such are the difficulties of the Government with respect to the Patronage at His Excellency's disposal', he should not expect employment, January 1818. Concerns a young child, Bridget Power, abandoned by her parents in a door way in Waterford, and child's subsequent death from exposure. Elliott seeks advice on whether a case for murder can be made against those involved. Encloses copies of affidavit of Mary Ryan of Tubbrid, County Kilkenny, and affidavit of Honor Power of Fiddown, County Kilkenny, both 27 January 1819 and both witnessed by Elliott.
