Letter from William Bennett, Church of Ireland Bishop of Cloyne, 11 Montague Square, London, to Chief Secretary's office, Dublin Castle, concerning the Lord Lieutenant's query about the ages of Reverend [Bigoe] Henzell, and Cloyne's nephew Burton Johnson, whom Cloyne is recommending as Henzell's successor, 1818. Also note stating that Henzell wishes to know if Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, and Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, approve of Cloyne's suggestion and that if so, Henzell is ready to resign his parish of Kilbrew, County Meath. Annotation by Dublin Castle official states that the Lord Lieutenant did not approve the plan, due to 'disparity' in the 2 men's ages, 22 January 1819. |

Letter from John Carson, Roscommon, County Roscommon, sub sheriff of County Roscommon, to William Gregory, concerning a recent escape attempt by 2 prisoners sentenced to death, Patrick O'Hara and John Burncan, and which involved the murder of the deputy gaoler, John Standish. Requests government permission that following the execution of the 2 prisoners, their bodies should be buried at the gaol. There is 'an apprehension of something serious happening at the wakes and funerals of these men as they have an immensity of friends and connexions in the county who have threatened to bring the Dead Bodies to the Houses of the prosecutors…which may be attended with serious consequences'. |
