As to the prospect of Lord Lifford [James Hewitt] filling a similar role, he observes that he ‘has for many years withdrawn himself from all business, all Boards, and even from the church, the therefore is very unlikely to take any part in the management of so disagreeable a business as the Government of an Hospital for insane persons’.
