Letter from Dr George Power, Carlisle Fort, Cove [Cobh], County Cork, half pay staff surgeon, to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, enclosing copy of a prospectus of a new publication entitled 'Gleanings in America, interspersed with sketches selected from the portfolio of a traveller of the United States', and stating that lack of funds is delaying its publication, 20 April 1821. Encloses letters from individuals who have pledged to subscribe to the publication, and testifying to Power's character and political principles, including 2 letters from his friend, Sir Richard Musgrave, Irish writer and politician, 21 December 1802; 12 February 1803. Also encloses newspaper extract from the 'Cork Mercantile Chronicle' of 16 April 1821, containing extracts from 'Gleanings in America'.
