States that he has been recommended for notice. Petition of Gregory Moran, concerning his application for police employment

SCOPE & CONTENT:

Petition of Gregory Moran, formerly private in 3rd Royal Veteran Battalion, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, 11 June 1821, concerning a recommendation sent to the Irish government from Captain Covell, on Moran's behalf, recommending him for appointment to police establishment. Encloses copy of letter of reply from Gregory to Captain Covill, stating that Moran's name, and that of Corporal Haslop, has been entered on the list of names of applicants for police employment, 19 May 1821. Moran states that despite presenting a copy of this letter to Major [Henry Charles] Sirr, chief magistrate of Dublin police, he was refused appointment, 'in consequence of not being a scholar', or being able to write. Requests Gregory's assistance with his case. Also letter from Captain Covill, Cashel, County Tipperary, of 3rd Royal Veteran Battalion, to Gregory, recommending Haslop and Moran, 15 May 1821.
