Certificate of recommendation from John Thomas Drought, Whigsborough, King's County [County Offaly], on behalf of John Hudson Roe. States that he has known Roe for nearly 30 years, as a tenant, and during the 1798 rebellion, when Roe was permanent sergeant of the Parsonstown [Birr] cavalry. Emphasises that he is a 'good and loyal Protestant', and recommends him for any police vacancy. Recommendation also signed by Thomas Bernard, King's County; and by Laurence Parsons, 2nd earl of Rosse. |

Includes petition from Tisdale, Laurence Street, Drogheda, County Louth, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, referring to his family's 'deplorable distress' and his inability to support them on his army half pay. Refers to his military service in 23rd regiment of foot, and later the 63rd regiment. Also to his family connections, including his Uncle Hawkshaw, a general in the East India Company [possibly Major-General Thomas Hawshaw], 3 March 1821.
