Certificate of recommendation from John Thomas Drought, Whigsborough, King's County [County Offaly], on behalf of John Hudson Roe. States that he has known Roe for nearly 30 years, as a tenant, and during the 1798 rebellion, when Roe was permanent sergeant of the Parsonstown [Birr] cavalry. Emphasises that he is a 'good and loyal Protestant', and recommends him for any police vacancy. Recommendation also signed by Thomas Bernard, King's County; and by Laurence Parsons, 2nd earl of Rosse.

File of papers relating to application of William Richard Tisdale, half pay ensign of 63rd regiment of foot, for employment as a preventive officer in water guard service. Includes petition from Tisdale, Laurence Street, Drogheda, County Louth, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, referring to his family's 'deplorable distress' and his inability to support them on his army half pay. Refers to his military service in 23rd regiment of foot, and later the 63rd regiment. Also to his family connections, including his Uncle Hawkshaw, a general in the East India Company [possibly Major-General Thomas Hawshaw], 3 March 1821. Also includes note from Major Richard Going, Rathkeale, County Limerick, chief magistrate of police for County Limerick, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, informing him of a vacancy as sub constable in his police force, 2 April 1821. Also letter from Tisdale to Gregory, thanking him for his interference in securing Tisdale the post of sub constable of police, 6 April 1821.

Encloses certificate of recommendation on Lawther's behalf, signed by 9 individuals in Dublin, 24 November 1821, including Alderman Frederick Darley, police magistrate; Abraham Bradley King, King's Stationer in Ireland; Alderman John Cash, police magistrate; and Lambert. [Lambert presumably added his name to the recommendation and forwarded the letter and enclosure on to the Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle].
