SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from Charles White, Charleville, Queen's County [County Laois], to Henry Kemmis, Merrion Square, Dublin, assistant barrister for Queen's County, concerning the barony of Upper Ossory, Queen's County, being placed under the peace preservation act. Requests that Kemmis recommend the names of the men listed in his letter, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, for employment in the new police force in the barony. States that the men in question, John and Henry Kingsmill of Borrisossry [Borris-in-Ossory]; Joshua Finlay of Rathdowney; and Benjamin Talbot of Monnamonra [Monamonra], 'are loyal Good Protestants', 21 May 1821. Also note prepared by official of the Chief Secretary's Office, listing names of the men recommended in White's letter, plus the name of George Malone, recommended by Mr Mooney of Moate, Queen's County [May 1821].
