Includes petition of the commissioners of the turnpike road from Dublin to Mullingar, to Charles Whitworth, Earl Whitworth, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting an advance of money from the consolidated fund to construct a new line of road 'to avoid the great Hill of Cappagh lying between Kilcock and Kinnegad. Details the reasons why the advance is required, and the income in tolls generated from the road. Signed by 6 commissioners, [June 1817], with annotations on reverse, of legal opinion of John Sealy Townsend, KC and legal advisor to CSO, respecting their request for money, 30 June; 29 August 1817. Also includes letter from John Foster, Collon, County Louth, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, concerning delays with the turnpike road from Dundalk to Banbridge, 11 January 1821, and enclosing copy of printed advertisement, for a meeting to be held on 20 January 1821 in Dundalk, concerning the road, 3 January 1821. |
