Letter from William Mossop, 144 Mecklenburgh [Railway] Street, Dublin, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, expressing, on behalf of the artists of Dublin, gratitude for Grant's efforts on their behalf, resulting in a charter granted to them, 16 November 1821. Encloses copy of petition of the artists of Dublin, intended to be submitted to King George IV, requesting financial aid to enable the new Academy to establish a school, 'for the Study of the Antique, of the Living Model, and to maintain an Annual Exhibition of Works of Art' [1821]. Also note containing the names of the 2 individuals, W Roberts and Mossop, appointed as the deputation to wait on Grant, to receive his advice on how to proceed with their application.

File of papers relating to requests of Dr John Radcliff, judge of Prerogative Court, Dublin, to have iron, rather than timber, presses installed in the court's strong room, for the storage and preservation of their original wills. Includes letter from Quin John Freeman, Hugh Nugent and Robert Gregory, Board of Works office, Dublin, commissioners of Board of Works, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, reporting, as requested on Radcliff's request, 20 April 1821, and enclosing letter from Francis Johnston, Eccles Street, Dublin, architect to Board of Works, to Robert Robinson, secretary to Board of Works, stating his opinion on the subject, 17 April 1821. Johnston includes a copy of letter already sent by Johnston to Radcliff, stating his opinion that iron presses are not preferable for keeping records safe, as they are prone to rust and corrosion, 6 April 1821.

Letter from Thomas Pakenham, 2nd earl of Longford, Pakenham Hall, County Westmeath, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning the 'scandalously inefficient & unalterable state' of the jail at Mullingar, County Westmeath. Recommends that the only remedy lies in the construction of a new jail. Requests that the government compel Reverend Dr Forster Archer, Inspector General of Irish Prisons, to attend at the forthcoming assizes, to state the case in favour of a new jail.

Letter from Major Alexander Taylor, Mark Bloxham and Sir Charles Coote, Paving Corporation House, Dublin, commissioners for paving, cleansing and lighting the streets of Dublin, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 5 January 1821, enclosing annual report of the commissioners, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, 5 January 1821. Report details the board's recent financial restrictions, due to the non payment of the allowance due from the Dublin Corporation, out of their tolls and customs income, and also due to the 'great insolvency on the collection of our taxes for the past year..', stating, therefore, that much of the board's improvement work has been postponed. Also encloses a statement of the progress achieved in sewer and flag work in Dublin city for year 1820. Details the quantity of sewers cleaned and replaced; and the area of paving flags repaired or laid, in each street in Dublin. List arranged alphabetically, by name of street.

Legal case on behalf of the crown, gathered and prepared by William and Thomas Kemmis, crown solicitors for Dublin and Leinster circuit, to obtain the opinion of William Saurin, Attorney General of Ireland, on the matter of the crown's rights respecting the church living of Ratoath, County Meath. Included with the case are originals, copies and copy extracts [some with duplicate copies] of 20 deeds, wills and memoranda relating to the case, 1628-1820, for Saurin's perusal. Schedule list of these documents is included with the case notes. Opinion of Saurin is annotated below case notes, 26 May 1820. Also copy of original legal case, with an updated annotation by Saurin, 20 June 1820. Papers relating to the case include, copy of legal opinion of Thomas Marlay, Attorney General of Ireland, concerning the claims of Dr Thomas Bolton, on the right of the presentation of the living of Ratoath, 20 October 1730; memorandum from John Erck, chief clerk, Record Office, Dublin Castle, stating the value of the living of Ratoath, 12 April 1820; copy of will of Dr Dudley Loftus, 5 April 1695; copy of will of Reverend Dr John Bolton, Dean of Derry, 24 November 1758; copy of will of Dr Thomas Bolton of Lagore, County Meath, 24 February 1762; and copy of will and codicils of Reverend Thomas Norman of Lagore, 14 June 1793. Also note by an official in Chief Secretary's Office, stating that these papers are 'to be put into the year 1821' for indexing purposes.
