Letter from Henry Allen, debtor held in Four Courts Marshalsea, Dublin, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 7 July 1821 enclosing a letter to Lord Londonderry, and affidavit of Joseph Holt, commander of the rebels in 1798, 'who burned my Woollen Manufactory Dwelling House and Offices in the County of Wicklow' [not present]. Also encloses statement of Allen's detailed proposal for scheme of forest tree planting in Ireland, which would also employ the poor of area, 7 July 1821 [present]. Also letter from Allen to Grant, continuing to negotiate for his release from Four Courts Marshalsea, and the injustice of his imprisonment for legal fees owed, when the original debt has been paid, 31 August 1821. |

Letter from anonymous writer, styled 'a Protestant loyal subject', to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, stating that author is a member of an Orange lodge, and informing him of a resolution that has been passed that each lodge should appoint 4 members to meet on 3 November and dress the statue of King William in orange and blue ribbons [to commemorate his birthday]. Author warns that, although he dared not oppose the resolution, he believes it will be 'highly inflammatory and injurious to the peace'. Urges government to have police on duty. |
