Letter from Denis Browne, Dublin, MP for Kilkenny city [and father of James Brown, MP for County Mayo], to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning the case of James Joseph McDonel [McDonnell], a Westport barrister and local United Irish leader in County Mayo, who fled to America during 1798 rebellion. Concerns desire of McDonnell's nephew, to obtain a pardon for his uncle, and allow him to return to Ireland; Browne expresses concerns at this prospect, 22 August 1821. Also letter from Browne to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, enclosing, for Gregory's information, a copy of the above letter, 22 August 1821.
