Letter from Pierce Butler, Ballyconra, County Kilkenny, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 23 May 1821, enclosing the resolutions and petition adopted at a meeting of magistrates, chief proprietors and landholders of barony of Galmoy, County Kilkenny, concerning recent disturbances in the barony. Protests against the proceedings at a recent meeting of magistrates held on 11 May 1821, in which they believe the state of the barony was misrepresented, and expresses opposition to plans to proclaim the barony, and the resultant expense to its taxpayers. Petition and resolutions both signed by Butler, as chairman of the meeting. Also includes copy of the resolutions attempted to be proposed by Butler, as chairman of the original meeting of magistrates of 11 May, but which were rejected, resulting in Butler's withdrawal. |
