Letter from Richard Willcocks, Rathkeale, County Limerick, chief police magistrate for County Limerick, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, reporting, as requested, concerning the police response to an outrage committed against Mr Hewson, of Askeaton, County Limerick, as reported in the 'Limerick Telegraph'. States that Hewson never reported the firearms which were stolen from his property: 'The fact is that such is the intimidation here that the people, and I am sorry to say many of the better class, are afraid publickly [sic] to say a word upon those subjects - even to report, and much less assist in bringing the perpetrators to Justice'.

Letter from Major George Warburton, Ennis, County Clare, chief police magistrate for County Clare, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 26 November 1821, enclosing copy of letter from Reverend Matthew Corbett, Kilrush, County Clare, parish priest, to Warburton, 19 November, enclosing resolutions and address passed at a meeting of inhabitants of Kilrush, chaired by Corbett. Resolutions express gratitude to Warburton for his conduct as chief police magistrate in the county, following his departure from Kilrush; their address to Warburton praises, 'the impartiality of your public Conduct', and 'for your Conciliatory, Gentlemanlike and Courteous manner of discharging an unpopular Duty…', 18 November 1821. Also copy of Warburton's letter of reply to the inhabitants of Kilrush, 24 November 1821; and his letter of reply to Corbett, 24 November 1821.

States that he is 'a Man of very infamous character', 26 November 1821. Annotation on reverse of letter, of opinion of John Sealy Townsend, King's Counsel and legal advisor to the CSO, 28 November 1821. Warburton returns 2 petitions from Rickards, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, and Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, 25 October 1821, complaining of injustices he has suffered, and making complaints against several individuals.

Returns petition of Lynch, Castleconnell, County Limerick, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, complaining that she was robbed of money by Patrick Magrath and Michael Magrath, and requesting government interference, postmarked 25 October 1821. Warburton also encloses letter from his chief constable of police, Henry Smith, Tulla, County Clare, to Warburton, reporting on the result of Smith's inquiries. States that Lynch 'is a woman of Infamous character having sacrificed her Daughter at an early age for the wages of prostitution…', 10 November 1821.

Letter from Major George Warburton, Ennis, County Clare, chief police magistrate for County Clare, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning his previous reports on disturbances in County Kerry, and enclosing 3 'private' letters on the matter [none present], emphasising that, 'I did not anticipate "without good grounds" the present state of things in that County…'. Also reports on his communications with Richard Willcocks, chief police magistrate for County Limerick, concerning how to proceed with 'a delicate case', relating to information received of arms hidden near Newcastle, County Limerick [in the home of a parish priest]. Also refers to the County Clare militia regiment; a meeting of magistrates at Doonass, County Clare, to form an armed [loyal] association; the impact of the absence of the detachment of the 93rd regiment from County Limerick; and a proposal to use yeomanry corps to assist the military, at Ennis and Rosscastle, County Clare. Also encloses copy of threatening notice posted on the church gate at Tomgraney, County Clare [not present].
