Willcocks states that he has placed Morgan in police protection, and that '…more cannot be done for him until after he gives his evidence' at the forthcoming trials, 30 November 1821. Returns letter from Morgan, Cashel, County Tipperary, to Gregory, requesting government assistance for his family, 28 November 1821.

SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from Major George Warburton, Ennis, County Clare, chief police magistrate for County Clare, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, reporting that he has removed gunpowder stocks, 'without difficulty or resistance', 1 December 1821. Encloses printed public notice, from Warburton, for circulation in his police district, warning inhabitants of County Clare, that the police and military will patrol the county 'continually' and will arrest any 'suspicious persons'. Also warns that cur-dogs must be confined inside houses after dark, following attacks on police patrols. Also encloses copy of pamphlet of 'Instructions to the Men of Major Warburton's Police Establishment', 2 March 1820. Contains rules and regulations of conduct, relating to their work, and other stipulations on matters such as church attendance, the avoidance of debt, and clean and tidy appearance.

Recommends the construction of a pier. Warburton adds a postscript, noting that any such work would also be a means of employment for the local poor.
