Letter from Major Daniel Macnamara Bourchier [incorrectly noted by official in Chief Secretary's Office as 'Bouchier'], Ardcloney, Killaloe, County Clare, magistrate of County Clare, to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, concerning disturbed state of his neighbourhood, including theft of firearms; threatening letters written to the Bishop of Killaloe; and role of yeomanry in maintaining the peace. States that he was granted permission by the local priest to address the Roman Catholic inhabitants in the parish, and notes the 'strong feeling' against tithes. States that the local priest 'has done everything in his power' to promote loyalty amongst his parishioners. Suggests various proposals for persuading the lower orders not to join the ranks of the disaffected. |
