Reports that the insurgents came from the direction of the County Galway border, and that those who were captured, have been arrested under the Whiteboy Act. States that he has requested Colonel Creagh [of 93rd regiment] to send a small detachment to support the police at Crusheen. |

States that the men addressed the watching crowd, and advised them to surrender their arms; also praises the conduct of the priests who attended, noting that when the prisoners spoke in Irish, one of the priests explained it to the crowd in English. Requests to be empowered with official authority to act, both in Cork city and county, to facilitate his efforts on behalf of the government, 17 December 1821. [Letter presumably forwarded to CSO by Colthurst]. Also note, in hand of William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, instructing White to be appointed a magistrate for County Cork, free of expense [December 1821]. |
