File of papers concerning opposition to government proposal to abolish the mail packet service between Waterford and Milford Haven, Wales. Includes letter from George Harrison, Treasury Chambers, London, assistant secretary to the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting the observations of Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, on the Waterford-Milford Haven mail packet, 19 June 1822. Also draft of notes for letter of reply to Harrison, in Goulburn's hand [June 1822]. File of papers concerning reductions in salaries of state and public officials in England and Ireland. Includes letter from George Harrison, Treasury Chambers, London, assistant secretary to the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 4 July 1822, enclosing printed order in council dated 28 February 1822, directing a 10% deduction in the salaries and emoluments of certain government offices, not subject to superannuation. States that the deduction will commence in April 1822 and operate for 5 years. Order includes list of the offices affected by the deduction, including senior posts such as Lord Steward of the Household, Lord Chamberlain, Lord Chancellor, Commissioners of the Treasury, consuls, ambassadors, and the Lord Lieutenant and Chief Secretary of Ireland. Name of James Buller, clerk of the Privy Council printed below. Also copy extract of Treasury minute entitled 'Reduction and Alteration in the Establishment', referring to the revisions of government departments in order to achieve 'Economical Reductions', and stating the ways in which the Treasury has itself endeavoured to conform with this, 10 August 1822; and copy extract of Treasury minute entitled 'Superannuation', concerning the Treasury's decision that government employees, 'who may hereafter enjoy the benefit of superannuation allowances, should be called upon to contribute to a Superannuation Fund', and detailing the procedures of the new scheme, 10 August 1822. Also statement detailing the salary of the office of Chief Secretary, with the 10% deduction, signed by Arthur Hume, deputy teller of the Irish exchequer, 15 August 1822.

Letter from George Harrison, Treasury Chambers, London, assistant secretary to the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 6 July 1822, enclosing copy of letter from commissioners of customs in Ireland, to the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, recommending William Clarke, boatman at the preventive water guard station at Dalkey, County Dublin, for superannuation, 14 June, and in turn, enclosing copy of medical certificate from Dr James Duggan, Dublin, 17 May 1822, and a copy of an affidavit sworn by Clarke, confirming his age, 20 March 1822. Harrison also encloses copy of a Treasury minute concerning Clarke's case, and authorizing the commissioners of customs to pay him a retired allowance, 21 June 1822.
