SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from James Corry, Linen Board, secretary to trustees of Linen Board, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 14 January 1823, responding, as requested, respecting case of William Foster Dick, as contained in Dick's petition to Goulburn, November 1822, concerning his [Dick's] request to be permitted to occupy rooms in the linen and yarn halls, previously occupied by other members of his family's firm. Dick details the history of his late father's firm, Samuel Dick and Company, and its current position. Also complains of the conduct of his brother, and of a Mr Smith [or Smyth], a linen trader, and misrepresentations made by both men relating to William Foster Dick [petition returned by Corry]. Corry also encloses copy of an order of the Linen Board Trustees, stating their position respecting Dick's case, 15 October 1822.

Letter from Thomas Pakenham, 2nd earl of Longford, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, expressing thanks for Gregory's response concerning an individual to be admitted to the Lunatic Asylum, 9 January 1823. Encloses a completed 'Form of affidavit &c, in Cases of Lunatics, whose Friends are desirous of placing them in the Richmond Lunatic Asylum'. Concerns the request of Patrick Gahagan, of Castlepollard, County Westmeath, to place his wife Mary into the asylum, 7 January 1823; witnessed by Longford, 9 January 1823. Also includes a certificate signed by Dr M Kenny, Castlepollard, verifying the patient's condition. Form also includes information on Mary Gahagan, and her next of kin. Also 2 versions of draft copy of letter from Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, to the moral governor of Richmond Lunatic Asylum, concerning the admission of Mary Gahagan, January 1823.
