SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from Thomas Verner, Belfast, sovereign of Belfast and a trustee of linen and hempen manufacture for Ulster, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, stating that a piece of brown linen recently bought by John Charley in Belfast, will be forwarded to Mr Shaw, to be laid before Goulburn, to, 'better enable you to judge of the fraudulent and pernicious practice of painting and glazing, as it is termed, in the manufacture, & of which you have heard so much…'. Notes that the linen in question came from Aghogill, County Antrim, and that the practice in question is 'most prevelant' [sic]. Refers to need for legislation on matter, 11 January 1823. Also note from Shaw, Linen Hall, Dublin, to Goulburn, referring to Verner's letter and requesting to arrange a time for Goulburn to view the linen in question, 15 January 1823. |

Letter from Reverend Richard Richardson, Passage, County Cork, rector of united parishes of Kill St Nicholas and Faithlegg, County Waterford, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, 8 January 1823, enclosing petition of Richardson, to Richard Bourke, Church of Ireland Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, requesting his sanction to a planned exchange of land between Richardson and Reverend Henry Fleury, rector of parish of Crooke, County Waterford, to enable Richardson to build a glebe house near the church of Passage [East], County Waterford. Petition is signed by Richardson, and also by Fleury and by the Bishop of Waterford, confirming that they agree to and approve of the scheme, 6 January 1823. Richardson informs Gregory that the proposal must now be approved by Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle. |

Also includes annual figures on the numbers of acres of flax seed sewn in Ireland, from 1812 to 1821. |
