Also letter from Richard Grace, moral governor, Richmond Lunatic Asylum, Dublin, to Gregory, communicating that no vacancy exists at present in the institution and enclosing 2 blank printed forms of admission to the asylum. Also letter from Minchin to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, on Roen's application with observation ‘Being afflicted with Epilepsy, she is not considered as a fit object for the Richmond Asylum’.

Letter from Bernard Fawkes [or Hawkes], 47 Summerhill, Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, requesting a reply to his earlier observations ‘relative to the disturbed state of this Country’ and enclosing a copy of same in which he laments the disintegration of social order and the insecurity of the country gentry. He regrets the persistence of ‘murder, plunder, rape and rapine’ and advocates the widespread issue of printed notices in response to Captain Rock’s posts, offering a reward for information on any seditious threats. In addition he advises the positioning of ‘an Electrifying machine in some convenient apartment in each Prison from which the Electric Shock could be conveyed to the Cell of a Criminal, and by its invisible power of action it would have all the effect and appearance of some Supernatural power, a Circumstance so well Suited to the Superstitious prejudices of the lower orders in this Country, particularly in these miracle Working times’. Also letter from Fawkes to Gregory, seeking to learn of Government response to his proposals.

Copy letter from Dublin Castle, to Richard McGillicuddy, high sheriff elect, Whitefield, Killarney, County Kerry, requesting no action be taken to remove the gaoler of Tralee Gaol, Edward Blennerhassett ‘to whom the County is so much indebted for the present improved State of the Gaol’. Encloses letter from Major Benjamin Blake Woodward, inspector general of prisons, 1 Dame Street, Dublin, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, commenting upon the extent of authority afforded to high sheriffs and observing that loss of Blennerhassett ‘would be a Great Injury to the public Service, at a most Critical period’. Also memorial from Blennerhassett, gaoler, Tralee Gaol, County Kerry, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, pleading for investigation of circumstances that might see his removal from office without reason and to be replaced by a relative of McGillicuddy’s.

Letter from Thomas Philip Vokes, police magistrate, Limerick, County Limerick, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, reporting on an investigation of Henry Harding, who contributed to local prosecutions leading to transportation of offenders, and whom he considers would ‘make a good Chief Constable’ of police; also makes reference to the issue of payment for removal of immediate kin from residence at Derawlin on grounds of personal safety. Returns letter from Harding, late magistrate, Harding Grove, Croom, County Limerick, to Goulburn, expressing claim for financial aid on grounds of having expended ‘nearly Three hundred pounds’ in discharge of duties; indicates ‘I do not by any means abandon my Claims for an appointment’ to the police establishment. He also makes mention of the offer of a reward of £40 by ‘Gen[eral] Rock’ to ‘any person who should take my life’. Also draft letter from Dublin Castle to Harding, acknowledging claim and confirming advance from Government of £200 in consideration of ‘all claims’.

Letter from Thomas Philip Vokes, police magistrate, Limerick, County Limerick, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, responding to a request for an investigation of a claim to salary arrears by Anthony Richardson, for a period of service with the police of County Limerick. Enclosing copy of account sheet displaying salary dues owed to Richardson of £3 3s 10d for the period 26 December 1820 to 3 September 1821and returning memorial from Richardson, to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, seeking a measure of relief following dismissal from the police and pleading for help towards support of 5 ‘helpless children’. Also memorial from Richardson, 21 Barrack Street, Dublin, to Wellesley, outlining his claim to salary dues of £6 17s 10d for police duties and further requesting advance of aid to send ‘Some of my Little orphans into Some School’; also refers to period of military service of 12 years. Also memorial from Richardson to Wellesley, reiterating his demand for payment of arrears of pay. Also letter from Richardson to Gregory, alleging he was ‘Dismissed Without any Investigation’ and applying for post ‘on the Watch [police]’; also seeks return of papers sent to Dublin Castle.

He also makes reference to the death of his wife and 2 children. Encloses a certificate from the magistrates of County Tipperary with recommendation in support of Quin ‘as a person very well qualified to fill a Situation in the police Establishment of the Country’, signed by William Cooper and 6 other individuals. Encloses letter from Major Samson Carter, chief magistrate, Donerile, County Cork, to McMonigle, relaying advice of Lumsden that as the original transaction was conducted with his deceased brother ‘an affidavit of the truth of your Claim’ should be procured and presented.
