File of material relating to an application from George Herbert Chute for compensation in reward for assisting in bringing to justice George Rowan, a collector of customs of Tralee in County Kerry, in connection with charges of fraud against the revenue department. Includes letter from Chute, Abbey Street, Tralee, to Robert Peel, [Secretary of State, London, England], recalling his pursuit of Rowan whom he accuses of fraud and misappropriation of revenue at the port of Dingle, and seeking payment of ‘fair compensation’ for his efforts, 3 August 1824. Also includes memorial from Chute to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, lamenting the failure of Government to afford him protection following his charges against Rowan, 23 January 1824.
