TITLE: |
Letter from Reverend Robert Kirchoffer, County Cork, offering a critique of Daniel O’Connell’s submission on Catholic marriage fees and the work of the assistant barristers |
SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from Reverend Robert Kirchoffer, magistrate and Church of Ireland rector of Clondrohid, Clondrohid glebe house, Macroom, County Cork, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary of Ireland, Irish Office, Westminster, London, casting doubt on the accuracy of a submission from Daniel O’Connell, barrister and leader of the Catholic Association, before the committee on the state of Ireland. In contradiction of O’Connell’s statement respecting the fees charges by Roman Catholic priests for weddings, he claims the average cost for those of the lower orders is between one and three guineas, and for those of the middling class, between £5 and 30 guineas per couple. Likewise he challenges O’Connell’s assertion as to the conduct of the assistant barristers in Ireland. He observes contrary to the statement made proceedings are not conducted with excessive rapidity but rather are done in an orderly fashion with intention ‘to examine into every case’. |

Letter from Sir Abraham Bradley King, Dublin, requesting assistance in having an up to date quarterly certificate of wholesale paper issued by the Stationary Office in London |
SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from Sir Abraham Bradley King, His Majesty’s Stationer, Dublin, to Henry Goulburn, Irish Office, London, seeking assistance of government in having an up to date quarterly certificate of wholesale paper issued by the Stationary Office in London. Complains he sent a letter last month on the matter to John Church, comptroller at the Stationary Office, but so far without reply.
