TITLE: |
Copy letter to TS Ireland, chief constable, County Roscommon, concerning the murder of Patrick Hooks at Kiltoom bridge |
SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Copy letter from Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, to TS Ireland, chief constable of police, Roscommon, County Roscommon, relaying some information concerning the murder of Patrick Hooks at Kiltoom bridge, County Roscommon. Observes that following an inquiry it has been ascertained that a person of that name was employed by a Mr O’Connell but it is not the man who was killed. It will be necessary for reasons of validation, he states, to have the deceased's clothes examined by his sister Mary Carroll [née Hooks] who is a resident of Bandon in County Cork. Adds in a postscript that evidence offered by Langhlin Kelly is ‘not sufficient’ to warrant taking into custody one of the principle suspects in the murder, James Connor.
