O’Hara he conforms ‘has never any advance of Public money in his hands’ nor is he, or those engaged with him, permitted to enter contracts for the public works. SCOPE & CONTENT:

Copy letter from Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, to Francis Powell, Ennis, County Clare, indicating an investigation on his claim for the sum of £13 13s 6d against Captain [John] Houlahan of the 4th revenue police has been entered into by the board of excise. They conclude, he conveys, prior to his move to a new district at Derry [County Londonderry] Houlahan made settlement ‘in full’ with Powell up to the 5th of April. Beyond that, he advises, should he wish to pursue his claim, it remains ‘a matter of legal decision’.

Nonetheless, he extends his assurance that his claim will receive due attention whenever a decision on that appointment is before the Lord Lieutenant. With note to the CSO clerk recorded below to write similar letters to Michael Burke and 10 other persons [or applicants].
