Encloses copy letter from Lieutenant Colonel AS King, 10th regiment of foot, Fermoy, County Cork, reporting on the malicious destruction of a dwelling house belonging to John Mahony together with ‘all the furniture and implements of Husbandry’. The victim, he observes, a tenant to [Henry Cole] Bowen of Bowen's Court, near Doneraile, had lately received a threatening notice from the Rockites warning him to depart.

Letter from Richard Willcocks, inspector general of police, Palmerston, County Dublin, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, reporting on the issue of finding sufficient stable accommodation for police horses at Curraglass in the barony of Kinnatalloon, County Cork [following the malicious destruction of the previous out offices]. He confirms a letter was written to the chief constable of police at that place [John B Kitson] stressing if stables cannot be found there then the constabulary party should relocate to a different part of the barony. Letter from Edward Wilson, chief police magistrate of County Tipperary, Thurles, County Tipperary, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, reporting on the apprehension of Edmund Maher, who is wanted in connection with an attack on the person and house of Dennis Cantwell of the parish of Moyne in County Tipperary. States the suspect was detected and captured through the efforts of Robert Wright, chief constable of police, Carlow, County Carlow, despite putting up a most robust resistance. He commends the conduct of Wright in bringing in Maher who will now be subjected to the full rigours of the law.

Letter from Lieutenant Westropp Peard Watkins, chief constable of police, Ennis, County Clare, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, reflecting on a warrant issued by Richard Creagh, magistrate, demanding police protection for tithe valuators working in the parish of Downe [Doon] in County Clare. Indicates he refused to act upon the warrant and seeks confirmation of his duty in such cases, 16 June 1825. Encloses copy warrant to Watkins ordering the assistance of the constabulary in protecting the valuers and commissioners operating under the Tythe Composition Act; states the officers have came under attack and are prevented doing their duty on the lands of Downe, signed by Creagh, 2 June 1825. Encloses copy letter from Lieutenant Colonel George Gauntlet [or Gauntlett], commander, 62nd regiment of foot, Templemore, County Tipperary, reporting that John Toole, lance corporal, came under assault by two men on the Roscrea road out of the town of Templemore. In the circumstances, he remarks, he lost his bayonet, ‘was stabbed in the Breast, and his Head severely cut’.

Encloses copy letter from Major D McPherson, 39th regiment of foot, Charleville, County Cork, reporting on the fire at ‘a small thatched Public House’ at Castle Wrickson, which is situation on the road between Buttevant and Charleville. Little has been discovered by way of motive for the attack, he continues, and the proprietor claims he is on ‘the best of terms’ with the country people.

Encloses letter from William Nash, chief constable of police, barony of Ikerrin, Roscrea, County Tipperary, reporting that Lance Corporal [John] Toole and his nephew fell victim to an ambush and violent assault at Killough on the 20th of June. He identifies two assailants in the incident as Thomas Lahy and Edward ‘the Jockey’ Kennedy, one of whom allegedly had earlier borne the brunt of insult from a member of Toole’s regiment. File of material relating to an inquest into the death of Michael Dunn at Mountbolus in King’s County [County Offaly] on the 14th of May, allegedly caused by a blow inflicted by Thomas Kernehan, police sub constable. Includes letter from William Wallace, Edward Kelly and Francis Berry, magistrates, Tullamore, King’s County, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, seeking legal guidance over granting bail to two persons held in connection with an assault on Dunn; they enclose a statement on the case indicating that Dunn received a fatal blow from the muzzle of a gun held by kernehan whilst being escorted from the [public house] of John Molloy; also encloses copy affidavits of Patrick McCain, James Malloy, Andrew Dunn, William Hann [or Hone], police sergeant, and George Peirce, surgeon, 16 June 1825. Also includes letter from Wallace to Gregory, explaining the previous letter from the magistrates was not an application for bail for kernehan but for Sergeant Hann and Sub Constable Benson, who are accuses of assaulting the deceased, 29 June 1825.
