Enclosing a copy of a judgement which Lee received from Francis Blackburn, King’s Council in 1823, clarifying a subject’s right to have council or an attorney before a trial by magistrates acting ‘Judicially’. Including annotation from Gregory seeking solicitor general’s opinion. Noting in detail incidences of Hill withholding money lodged under the orders of that court, detaining for private use money owed to the clerks of the court, holding more than one position and mismanagement of his office. Including annotations from William Gregory, Under Secretary and Henry Joy, Solicitor General, observing that the King’s patent, appointing Hill must be carried out and questioning the motivation of the accuser bringing the charges.

Letter from John O’Connell, 34 Upper Abbey Street, Dublin, to [Richard] Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, 1 March 1826, requesting the reduction of a bill of costs incurred while applying for a loan of £2000 for his colliery in County Cork, from the Commissioners appointed to Issue Money for Public Works from a Consolidated Fund. Also letter from John Galloway, secretary to the commissioners, 37 Northcumberland Street, [Dublin], to William Gregory, Under Secretary, 14 March 1826, reporting on and enclosing correspondence between the commissioners and O’Connell in 1823. Also letters from Galloway, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary and Gregory, dated 1823, observing that O’Connell should have been aware of the expenses and delays in getting the loan in consequence of a deficiency in his title. Also letter from O’Connell, Kilcolman, Kanturk, [County Cork], to Goulburn, mentioning the proposed engineering works to his mine contained in the report of Richard Griffith, engineer. Also letter from William Goddard, 15 Middle Gardiner Street, Dublin, to Galloway, reporting on his efforts to investigate and rectify O’Connell’s title, adding that O’Connell has of yet not paid him ‘a single farthing’ in legal expenses.
