Letter from CH and J Leslie, Cork, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, enclosing a copy of a letter from them to Thomas Kemmis, crown solicitor, Dublin, expressing surprise at the suit of the crown for their outstanding government loan, noting that the government are secured payment before all other creditors under a commission of bankruptcy. Note from [] stating that the opinion of the law advisor to the crown is that it is expedient to ascertain the amount due to Messers Leslie. Note from [] stating that Goulburn has no recollection of the paper required by Mr Taylor but suggesting that the Loan Commissioners might have it. Memorial to [Richard] Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, signed by nineteen of the land-holders, merchants and others of Portadown, County Armagh, warning that the state of the River Bann, including the growth of a sand-bank where the river flows into Lough Neagh, is hindering the passage of boats and trade, and suggesting that a canal be created near Portadown. Also letter from William Blacker, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, enclosing the memorial and adding that the works proposed would be of great advantage to the public. Includes annotation stating that the project should be encouraged. Also internal note stating that funds are not available to the Lord Lieutenant and that the only means to advance it is by a loan. Affidavit of William Daniel, Mary Street, Dublin, swearing that the Governors of Saint Patrick’s Hospital were allotted the Commons of Saggart, [County Dublin] by act of Parliament, that they demised 622 acres to Ambrose Moore, who in turn sold his interest to Daniel, but that he has been denied access to the land by the ‘riotous and turbulent conduct of the persons who had made encroachments on said Common’. Also letter from Henry Arabin, Dublin, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, informing him of the case and stating that Daniel has procured the assistance of the sheriff to assist him in getting legal possession.
