Recalling a conversation with Edward Scott, assistant barrister at the assizes of County Leitrim and stating that it is common for a number of persons to waylay and beat unoffending victims to death ‘merely’ because of ‘theological tenets’. Also suggesting that the majority of persons who take the government bounty allowing them free passage to Canada are ‘the comparatively wealthy among the lower classes of protestants’ and that the scheme has no effect on diminishing ‘the number of idle, disaffected and unemployed’ inhabitants.
