Letters from [Samuel] Rosborough, Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, seeking a pension. Noting that he was appointed Tide Surveyor of Sir John Rogerson’s Quay by Lord Whitworth in 1816. Claiming that extra duties placed on him, required him to travel in open boats in winter which caused him to develop rheumatic fever and ill health. As the position was discontinued in 1825 he was required to surrender his house and aged 63 he wished to retire. Also abstracted statement from Rosborough outlining his public works including the establishment of the ‘Charitable Institution for the Relief of Sick and Indigent Room Keepers’. |

Memorial of Thomas McHugh, care of William Thomas Kelly of Castlebar, [Collect], County Mayo, to [Richard] Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, claiming that three of his stolen calves were in the possession of John Murray, ‘soft goods dealer’ of Longford town who claimed he bought them at a public market. Noting the assistance he received from Michael Connell, cow jobber. Noting that Murray sold them to Pat Connor of Longford despite giving an assurance to magistrates that he would hold them until the assizes. McHugh was obliged to buy them back off Connor and now asks that Murray be tried for stealing. |
