Letter from Brig Maj J Semple, Belturbet, [County Cavan], to William Gregory, Under Secretary, reporting that a crowd of over 100 marched from the election at Cavan to the village of Drumaloor where they attacked the house of a protestant named [Huet, ?Hewitt]. Adding that the son of [Huet], who is in the Castlesaunderson yeomanry, fired at the crowd, wounding a woman and that the crowd dispersed following the arrival of other protestants from the village. Adding that the magistrates are conducting an enquiry.

Letter from Henry Smyth, Barbabilla, Drumcree, [County Westmeath], to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, forwarding information sworn before him concerning outrage and murder; noting that [Thomas Pakenham, 2nd] Earl of Longford submitted reports on the same subject and expressing a desire to discover the perpetrators. Also affidavit of John Brady and his son Thomas Brady, farmer Gilliardstown, County Westmeath, stating that they were beaten and threatened by a gang of over 20 persons who ordered then to give up the ground they had taken at Barbabilla. Also affidavit of Thomas Brady, Gillardstown, reporting that during an attack on his house by a gang, James Haggerty who resided with him was shot dead.

Copy of letter from Edward Synge, Dysart, Carrofin [Corofin, County Clare], to Robert Peel, Home Secretary, reporting on his confrontation with Rev John Murphy, catholic priest of Corofin, mainly concerning control of a school in the area which was later burnt down. Claiming that Murphy warned him that only the priests could control the barbarous ‘common Fellows’ who ‘hated a Sassenagh’ and later abused Synge from the altar for a number of weeks when he refused to give up the school. Adding that Murphy has excommunicated and encouraged boycotts against those whose children attend the school. Requesting that bail be denied to prisoners accused of the arson attack and observing that those involved are not from the poorest class of catholic and that they have been supported by Mr O’Gorman, catholic magistrate.

Letter from Rev Ralph Stoney, Parsonage House, [County Tipperary], to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, transcribing three threatening ‘Rockite’ notices signed by the ‘Terryglass Boys’ directing their threats against Billy Kennedy and D Duncan or Dunkin, schoolmaster whom they accuse of being heretics and transgressors; adding that the schoolhouse has since been burned and that Dunkin has been beaten and has also been verbally abused by the catholic coadjutor of the parish; observing that Dunkin is a convert to Protestantism; expressing his fears and recalling that Rev Charles Minchin of the neighbouring parish was recently murdered.

Stating that Mr Taylor and Thomas Garrett was badly beaten by the crowd. Adding that clamps of turf are frequently destroyed by being thrown into bogholes in the area and that the house of Mr Campbell has been set on fire.
