Noting that additional police are required under the Constabulary Act; that officers appointed under the Peace Preservation Act should be removed; that the barony has no police horses and that Mr Millar is no longer competent to fill the position of chief constable. Also reporting that banknotes and watches were stolen from Hugh Croke, Eyrefield, County Kildare by a gang of more than five armed men. Adding that Croke’s maid was arrested on the suspicion of being an accomplice.

Letter from Maj James Tandy, Grangebeg, Kilcullen, [County Kildare], to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, enclosing a copy of a letter from Michael Berry, magistrate of County Kildare, reporting on an unsuccessful police raid on a ‘sheebeen house’ near Timohoe where it was reported that an illegal meeting was being held. Berry notes that he went to the house with Sir Gerald Aylmer and that those inside had fled but that three respectable farmers were arrested nearby having being found carrying loaded arms. Includes annotation from Richard Wellesley doubting if the ‘farmers had any bad intention’.
