Letter from William Henry Carter, Castlemartin, Kilcullen, [County Kildare], to William Gregory, Under Secretary, reporting that an alarming fever is prevalent in Athy and requesting the intervention of the Board of Health. Noting that as a consequence of its infectious character the quarter sessions in that town were adjourned and that Mrs Clayton, wife of Dr Clayton; Mrs Butler, wife of the Sovereign of Athy and Mr Johnson, apothecary have all fallen victims to it. Also letter from Francis Barker, Secretary, General Board of Health, to Gregory, reporting that the extent of fever in the town is ordinary but that ‘it was rather more than usually frequent amongst the superior class’.
