Also letter from Wood, Sheriffs Prison, to Maj Woodward, claiming that Rennick owes rent for his room and is well capable of paying the weekly rent of 1s 6d being an ensign on full pay; stating that he plans to pursue the unfounded libel on his character. Also letter from Woodward, Inspector General of Prisons, Dublin, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, noting that Wood was justified in moving Rennick but that accommodation for prisoners should be improved. |

Letter from Joseph Baker, notary public, Ballynaule, Crookhaven, [County Cork], to William Lamb, Chief Secretary, complaining of mistreatment by Alexander O’Driscoll and John Brown, an inspector of stamp duties; claiming that he was inconvenienced and was required to travel long distances having being summonsed for a breach of the game laws; claiming that both men are well aware that he does not use his firearms for sporting purposes; noting that he was intimidated and attacked during the insurrection of 1821. Also letter signed by Rev M Moore, curate of Kilmore, Richard Midway, Chief Officer of the Coast Guard and John Notter, Crookhaven, also complaining that they have been inconvenienced by John Brown by having to attend the hearings. Also letter from O’Driscoll, Cork, to Lamb, defending his actions and asserting that Baker was lucky not to have been convicted and also suggesting that Baker is disliked in his area ‘for his Tyranny and oppression in the Collection of Tythes’. Includes annotation from Richard W Greene recommending that the government need not interfere in the case. |

Noting that one of his parishes has no protestant inhabitants and therefore wishing to know if it is necessary for each parish in a union to have its own church wardens? Includes opinion of Richard W Greene stating that the churchwardens of the union are competent to collect the cess from all inhabitants, be they catholic or protestant, and that the existence of a ruined church is circumstantial. |
