Letter from [Richard Butler, 2nd Earl of] Glengall, Cahir, [County Tipperary], to unidentified recipient, welcoming the decision to retain Mr Barry in Cahir and noting that due to his presence there has been no outrages in Cahir for three months. Noting that Kirby, who has been implicated in the Mara and Murphy murders and other incidents, has expressed a willingness to give himself up and to provide information. Suggesting that Kirby’s testimony could lead to the collapse of the Rockite system in the area and that the information would be worth sparing his life; noting however that Maj Carter and Dr Fitzgerald believe that Kirby should be hanged.

Noting that the two men, who were convicted of burglary and murder are Michael Lindigan, alias Michael na Clock and Hickey, and suggesting that the Quins support them because they helped reap their corn according to the ‘old Irish System’.
