Also letter from MR Plunkett, Chief Constable, Moylough, [County Galway], to Maj Warburton, reporting on an attempted arson attack on the house of Neal of Ballinloss, a cottier and tenant of Mr Gerrard; adding that the perpetrators may have disguised their intentions in carrying embers of turf by following ‘an old custom, generally followed on Bonfire nights of bringing home part of the Fire’; suggesting that the outrage was as a result of recent ejectments.
