Includes correspondence from [Alexander] Armstrong, Edenderry, [County Offaly], S Rait, Dublin, his brother George Rait, including his petition to Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess Anglesey, [Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Dublin]; [Lieut] William Henderson, Chief Constable, Hollybrook, Ballycumber, [County Offaly], James Frank Rolleston Esq, High Sheriff, with Sir Francis Leveson Gower, [Chief Secretary], Dublin Castle, William Gregory and Lieut Col [Sir William] Gosset, [successive Under Secretaries, Dublin Castle]. Also, letter from Sir John Harvey [Inspector General, Kilkenny, County Kilkenny], mentioning the arrest of persons named Hart, Quin, Gay, Costello and depositions by James Mulligan. Further, printed resolutions signed Valentine Bennett, High Sheriff, naming a committee of twelve persons, and 50 subscribers to a reward. Later correspondence refers to prisoners who are not to be allowed for bail. S Rait states that his brother took a farm on Lord Trimlestown’s estate, naming former tenant Maurice Dunn, and the receiver Edward Shawe Esq.
