Letters from Maj William Miller, [Inspector General of Police in Munster], Fermoy, [County Cork], to Edward Geoffrey Smith Stanley, Chief Secretary, reporting on charges of misconduct against officers of the police establishment: notes John Norris, sub-constable, County Cork, took intoxicating liquor while in the company of two men ‘of bad character’ and misused the barracks of Killavullen; that Mr Thompson, sub-constable, Cahir, County Tipperary, abandoning his barracks and attending a public house; that Mr Cantillon, constable, County Cork, appeared before the magistrates accused of being drunk. Also letter from [Henry] Brownrigg, chief constable, Doneraile, [County Cork], to Miller, affirming Norris’ use of alcohol and collaboration with two unfavourable persons. Also anonymous letter written from Killavullen, [County Cork], to Miller, alleging that Norris [also spelt Norras] was seen drinking with ‘two Good Blades’ who accompanied him to the barracks, one of whom having spent the night with him at that location.

Also letter from Miller to Edward Geoffrey Smith Stanley, Chief Secretary, recommending that Von Shambourg be discharged. Also returns memorial of Von Shambourg, Kanturk, County Cork, to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, seeking intervention following his removal from the police; notes that while serving in the Dutch navy, he was taken prisoner by a British man of war at the blockade of Texel [island] and sent to Scotland; stating he served for 19 years in a Dublin militia prior to employment for nine years in the police establishment.
