Letter from Maj Thomas D’Arcy, Inspector General of Police, Dublin, to William Lamb, Chief Secretary, informing him that Chief Constable O’Brien of County Tyrone had previously been granted a leave of absence due to ill health [see CSO/RP/1827/46], but that no time period was specified. States that his jurisdiction, the Barony of Clogher, has been without a chief constable for the past 6 months, and enquires if he should transfer one from other county to take his place. Annotated by Richard Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, directing Lamb to enquire into O’Brien’s circumstances. Additional letter from Rev [] O’Brien [Chief Constable O’Brien’s brother], London, to unknown recipient, stating that his brother’s health is not much improved, and that, under the circumstances, he will tender his brother’s resignation on his behalf, until such time that he is well enough to be reinstated.
