Copy of report of meeting of magistrates, County Tipperary, held to investigate claims made against Richard Willcocks, chief police magistrate |
SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Letter from Chambre Brabazon Barker, Kilcooly Abbey, County Tipperary, high sheriff of County Tipperary, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, 31 October 1821, enclosing copy of report of a meeting of magistrates of the county, at Cashel, County Tipperary, 30 October 1821, held at request of Barker, under command of Earl Talbot Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, to inquire into claims of Connell O'Connell against Richard Willcocks, chief police magistrate for baronies of Middlethird and Clanwilliam, County Tipperary. Concludes that those outrages were solely the result of a property dispute between O'Connell and William Butler of Williamstown. Names of those magistrates in attendance annexed below report; copy signed by Barker. Also annexes copy of resolution passed by the magistrates in praise of conduct of Willcocks and police establishment, 30 October 1821; also signed by Barker. |
