In particular, his complaints at the failure of Captain Richard Mahony's Kenmare yeomanry corps to come to his aid. States his belief that a 'deep, silent, and complicated Plan' exists to overthrow church and state, using the popular issue of abolition of tithes and the reduction of rents, as a 'pretext'.

Encloses information of Fegan, sworn before Reverend James Slator, Naas, 24 December 1821. Annotation on reverse of Connor's letter, of opinion of William Saurin, Attorney General of Ireland [January 1822]. Also includes note from Richard Neville, Merrion Square, Dublin, to Gregory, 21 December 1821, enclosing letter from Reverend James Slator, Naas, County Kildare, reporting that neither tithes nor rents are being paid, and requesting £7 for his support, 20 December 1821. Encloses report, detailing outrages committed in barony between 13-26 December 1821, signed by Tandy, 28 December 1821. Also includes letter from 2nd baron Cloncurry, Lyons, Celbridge, County Kildare, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, offering his opinion respecting requests of certain individuals to have the barony proclaimed, 5 January 1822 [presumably accidently written as 1821]. Also copy report of meeting of magistrates of County Kildare, 4 January 1822, chaired by Cloncurry, stating 'we do not believe that any illegal political conspiracy does exist in it, or that any outrages have been committed, to justify or require the establishment of an extraordinary Police'.
