SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from William Logan, 40 Mecklenburgh [Railway] Street, Dublin, local inspector of Four Courts Marshalsea, Dublin, to Alexander Mangin, chief clerk in civil department, Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, concerning insolvent debtors in Four Courts Marshalsea, and suggesting that a private fund be established to free debtors imprisoned for smaller sums, ultimately saving the public purse, 15 October 1819. Encloses petition of John Carpenter, insolvent debtor held in Four Courts Marshalsea, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, requesting a supply of bread and milk and stating his poverty. Also letter from Carpenter to Grant, expressing hope that Grant received his petition, and will act on it, 29 October 1819.
