SCOPE & CONTENT:

Petition of William Campbell, innkeeper, Coleraine, County Londonderry, to the Lords Chief Justices of Ireland, requesting to be have his licence to sell liquor reinstated. Details his alleged persecution concerning his licence, by Henry Blackard, formerly mayor of Coleraine. Details events of the night of 16 October 1821, when some of the town organised an illumination in support of Queen Caroline. Despite demonstrating his loyalty by allowing 'a transparency of King William with the words of "God save the King" ' in the window of his inn, Campbell explains how Blackard called him 'insolent' and 'disrespectful', 9 June 1821. Encloses letter from JC Beresford, Beech Hill, [County Londonderry], to Campbell, vouching that Campbell was not insolent to Blackard on the night in question, 4 June 1821.
