Statement concerning details of population census conducted in 1821
SCOPE & CONTENT:

Statement prepared by staff of Record Tower, Dublin Castle, and submitted to the Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, 15 January 1822, concerning proceedings and actions taken, under the population act, between 28 May 1821, when the census was taken across Ireland, and 28 November 1821, during which time, the results were lodged at the Record Tower, to be 'examined, arranged and digested for Parliament'. Includes appendix of handwritten and printed material, relating to the machinery and expense of carrying out the census across Ireland. This includes copies of circular letters and instructions issued from the Record Tower to local magistrates, enumerators, and assistant barristers, June 1821- November 1821.
